encinitas, california day trip

Today was one of the best days ever, with a hefty dollop of bittersweet. It started bright and early at Snooze in San Diego’s Hillcrest Neighborhood on a breakfast date with John. This  spot was shown to me by Brittany, and man is it a go-t0. Since today was John and my last day in San Diego together, we decided we would have to treat ourselves.

One of the great things about this restaurant, is that they allow you to customize your order by picking and choosing from the menu. I always get 1/2 an omelet, and 1/2 of their OMG French Toast. I cannot recommend it enough.

There’s nothing like a mocha, a hot date, and Snooze’s OMG French Toast to start your day right.

Later, I met Brittany and Jen in Encinitas, California (just about 30 minutes north of San Diego). We went to D Street Beach to spend the afternoon swimming, tanning, and catching up.

I met Brittany my freshman year through our sorority. She said she chose to be my friend since my instagram bio said “i miss my cat” and the rest is history. She is a persistent and hardworking person. She cares about people so whole heartedly, and encourages the best in them. My college experience would be so different without her. She pushed me to get an internship, encourages me constantly, and makes me work harder just to keep up with how hard she herself works.

The water at D Street Beach was the most beautiful I have seen in the San Diego area. It was crystal clear and perfect temperatures. The waves were so gentle you could almost float on them. Honestly, I’ve never been much of an ocean swimmer. I usually hate to get my hair dirty or I think the water is too cold. Today was different though, or maybe it was just the beauty of this beach.  It was a much deserved relax day.

After relaxing in the sun, we poked around at the boutiques and thrift stores up the street. One of our favorite boutiques in the area is called Salt. It’s on trend, not too expensive, and it has the cutest outside seating area. Later, we grabbed a bite at The Taco Stand (one of my other San Diego Favorites). I always get their California burrito, which if you don’t know, is a southern California staple. It’s a burrito that includes french fries and guacamole, and you can order it all over San Diego.

We drove up the road to get dessert at the Sub Zero in Carlsbad where Brittany and I said our official goodbye. While I’m so excited to go abroad and experience new parts of the world, I really hate saying goodbye to all my best friends for 4+ months.

If I’m being really honest, I’m slightly scared to go abroad. Don’t get me wrong, the past year I’ve been nothing but excited. But, now that the countdown is on, I keep thinking about the time change, the holidays I’ll miss with my family, and my severe FOMO with my friends. I know that I’m not the only study abroad student to feel this way, and I know that the experience will be amazing, but I am just someone who really struggles with change. I chalk it up to over thinking. Anyway, this day was such an amazing one of being loved on by my friends before I left San Diego. Thanks Brittany ♡
