summer in tahoe

I have two older sisters and the younger of the two lives up in Truckee, California. This bodes well for me, as I get to visit her throughout the year and experience Lake Tahoe in all seasons. This weekend I got to enjoy Summer in Tahoe.

The Drive up from Fresno is only 4 hours, and it goes by fast when I’m coming up with my parents. I don’t get to see my parents that often so it’s nice to have the weekend with them. When we got up to the mountain we checked into our hotel. We’ve stayed in a couple different ones in the area since were up here visiting brenna throughout the year. This weekend we stayed in the Welk, and it very nice. I shudder to think what it would cost during ski season, but during the slow summer months it was reasonable.

After checking in we all met down in the Northstar courtyard to catch up. Since moving away for college, I see my extended family very infrequently. It was nice to spend time with family members that I haven’t seen in a while. We’re all growing up and have new adventures and stories to share.

The first night we ate at Rubicon, which is a delicious pizza place in the North Star village. My favorite kind of pizza is the Blanco, because I’m not a big fan of the meat lovers style pizza. I definitely recommend the place if youre in the area and want some gourmet pizza. After, we took the gondola up to the Ritz for drinks and a view of the sunset. The forrest is so beautiful, and it’s a refreshing  adjustment for me after living in San Diego for so long. I really enjoy the smell of pine and the peace and quiet. Also, the air quality up here is so great, especially compared to Fresno. It’s nice to just stop and breathe with a beautiful sunset.

This trip came about because my Aunt and Uncle are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. Sunday night they invited us to a dinner. That morning however, my mom, aunt, sister and I all mingled in Truckee downtown for breakfast and shopping. The main strip is not too long, but it’s very quaint and old fashioned. The stores feature woodsy trinkets and home decor. There were a couple of cute clothing boutiques that I could have spent a long time in if my family hadn’t been there to speed me through.

For dinner I wore a Free People dress I found at Nordstrom Rack last week. I’m in love with the gingham and the tie waist. I paired the monochromatic colors with a bright red mule. I considered a bold red lip but I’m not sure if I love the color on myself so I settled for a red tint instead.

The venue for the dinner was beautiful. It was upstairs in Gar Woods Grill and Pier, which is on Lake Tahoe in Carnelian Bay. We got to watch the sunset while we celebrated. Congratulations Mike and Katie on 25 years!

While typing my blog, my dad reminded me many times that he “kicked my ass” in cards. He has a competitive streak, that I may or may not have inherited as well. Dad- good win, your prize is a sarcastic feature.

Highlights: Seeing extended family, quality time with my sister, escaping the Central Valley, red shoes, and Lake Tahoe.
